De Tamarillo of boomtomaat komt van oorsprong uit het Andesgebergte. Is familie van de aardappel, tomaat en aubergine. De Tamarillo is eetbaar, maar voor een goede vruchtzetting en ontwikkeling van de vrucht is wel warmte nodig.
